AWARENESS THROUGH MOVEMENT LESSONS

Are you looking for group classes on movement-based awareness? Our Hareket Yoluyla Farkındalık (Movement-Based Awareness) classes are designed to help you connect your body and improve your physical and mental well-being. Join us for a experience that will leave you feeling more grounded and centered.

AWARENESS THROUGH MOVEMENT

In the Feldenkrais Method®, you are offered several different options for how to combine various materials for a specific movement. This allows each individual to move according to their own body and learning style. By learning at your own pace, you have the freedom to make personal discoveries and manage your own process of growth.

One of the strengths of the method is that you are encouraged to make your own choices, guided by your internal sense of what feels most comfortable and easy. Whatever movements you discover, you will be encouraged to work within the range of movement that is already comfortable and easy for you. By avoiding discomfort and tension, you will have the freedom to listen to all the sensations that accompany your movement, rather than focusing on some external goal.

There is no need to wear or bring anything special; you should simply choose comfortable clothing that keeps you warm and allows you to move freely. As a result of exploring movements in "comfortable" clothing, you will gain the freedom to focus all your attention on the physical sensations you experience. Since the movements are usually small and slow, "warm" clothing and even a blanket can be very helpful, as getting cold can also prevent you from fully concentrating on yourself while moving.

HOW ARE THE GROUP CLASSES CONDUCTED?

ATM (Awareness Through Movement) lessons typically last around 40-60 minutes. Most lessons are conducted while lying comfortably on a mat on the floor, often on your back, side, or stomach. However, there are also lessons where you might sit on the floor or in a chair, or even stand.

Each Feldenkrais ATM (Functional Integration) class offers a series of coordinated movements that target a specific function, such as walking, standing, sitting, or lying down. These movements come together like pieces of a puzzle, affecting different parts of the body in a holistic way. The movements you explore in a lesson may sometimes be easy and at other times more challenging. Regardless of the situation, the movements are broken down into small, manageable steps, and you are guided through these steps without any pressure to achieve success in any particular way. In fact, you don't even need to perform the movements correctly to benefit, as the focus of ATM lessons is on the process of "paying attention to yourself." Developing your ability to pay attention to yourself can benefit you in all areas of your life.

Another noteworthy aspect of the method is that you are not told or shown how to perform a movement correctly. My role is to guide you verbally through the various steps of a lesson, continually adapting the instructions. This way, everyone progresses towards the intended goals without receiving praise or correction. Students often tend to close their eyes to better focus on their inner sensations and to eliminate the distractions of sight. In this way, they can continue their learning experience at their own pace.

COMMENTS

“I have been familiar with the Feldenkrais method for 4 years now. Encountering this method was a great stroke of luck for me. In the beginning, I could only do 15 minutes of the lesson. Most of my body was stiff, and I had been diagnosed with Morbus Bechterew. After 4 years, the area around my stiff left shoulder blade has loosened up. Now I can use my left arm comfortably. With the Feldenkrais method, my posture, walking, and turning have all improved. This method is amazing, with surprises for your body. It’s fun. It’s a therapy that involves your soul, body, and mind. I wish everyone could get to know this method. Because if you start healthy, life will continue to be healthy.”

"When I first started the lessons, there were many moments when I felt as if one of my limbs, like an arm or a leg, was longer than the other. As I became more aware of the parts of my body involved in the movements, I would feel that area as longer or larger. Over time, lasting comfort developed in the areas where I practiced movement. Muscles that I had never moved before started to move, causing some temporary pain, but then I noticed an increase in my range of motion.

Each week, I felt a little more relaxed. Overall, my awareness increased. I always looked forward to the next lesson, curious about what would happen. I am very satisfied and want this to continue indefinitely. I believe that more people deserve to benefit from this wonderful program, and I hope it reaches even more individuals."
